The Sydney Art Store ESL Installation – Homemaker Alexandria

We recently completed an Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) installation at Sydney Art Store, located in The Homemaker Alexandria.

As Australia’s leading online art retailer, the requirement was clear — ensure in-store pricing matches online pricing in real time, without scaling hardware linearly.

Key Outcomes

  • 15,000+ SKUs managed
  • < 3,000 ESL units deployed
  • Use of 4.2″ displays to show multiple products per label
  • Custom templates designed to increase information density
  • Direct integration with Shopify for real-time price sync

Result

  • Reduced Hardware Requirement by ~80%
  • Reduced Labour Costs by Eliminating manual ticket updates
  • Full Alignment between online and in-store pricing
  • Scalable System without proportional cost increase

Commentary

Most ESL deployments follow a one-label-per-product model, which breaks down in high-SKU environments due to cost and complexity.

This installation takes a different approach, using larger format ESL and structured templates to consolidate multiple SKUs into a single display. This shifts ESL from a replacement for paper tickets to a data-driven display system, where pricing is organised by category and range rather than individual items.

The outcome is a more efficient use of hardware, improved shelf clarity for customers, and a system that can scale without requiring a proportional increase in labels.
